One story, told as you remember it. This is not a place to judge the lodge that received you. It is a place to set down what was good about a visit, so that it is kept.

Where the story is set

The Grand Lodge the lodge you visited belongs to. Others are added as the archive reaches them.

District 1 is on the roll so far.

Name and number both, because two lodges can share a name.

A year on its own is enough.

Leave it if you cannot place it.

The story

Optional. We can find one for it if you would rather not.

As much or as little as you like. A paragraph is a story. So are ten pages.

If you do not know where to start

  • Who is the Brother you have never forgotten, and what was it about him?
  • Who made you welcome when he had no reason to, and how did he do it?
  • What was said to you in a lodge that you have carried ever since?
  • When did you need a hand, and find that it came from a Brother?
  • What did you come to know about a man that you would never have guessed?
  • Where has the Craft taken you that you would never otherwise have gone?
  • What is the evening you would want a man who is not yet a Mason to see?

If you would rather not write it yourself

Tell it whichever way is easiest. Send a page you have already written, or say it aloud and send us the recording. We will set it down as a story and send it back for you to read, and nothing is published until you have said it is right.

A letter, a Word file, a page from a notebook. A clear photograph of the page is enough. Three at most.

Say it aloud in your own words, for as long as it takes. We write it up and send the text back to you to approve.

Photographs

Optional, and two at most. The building, the hall, the summons, the supper. Not people who have not agreed to appear.

A line for each, so a reader knows what he is looking at.

Before you send it

What to leave out

  • Nothing of the ritual, or of what passes in a tyled lodge.
  • No private business of the lodge: ballots, candidates, discipline, money, membership.
  • No personal details of another member without his agreement.
  • No photographs of people who have not agreed to appear.

How your name appears

Stories appear under your own name, as you gave it when you registered.

Optional. One address, sent a copy when the story is published. Nothing goes to it before then.

You keep what you write. You give Travelling Freemason permission to show your story and your photographs on this site, and to edit it for length and clarity before it appears. If a printed collection is ever made, you would be asked again, separately, at that time.

Every story is reviewed before it appears, and may be lightly edited for length and clarity. Nothing is published automatically, and nothing appears before your membership has been confirmed.
